The skating pulse.

Roller Skating is alive and well.

Skates have always held a special place in most peoples hearts as a memory of some of your best times as a child. But with the current boom in fitness, many trainers are advocating skating as a preferable work out over running. This ends up bring a lot of former skaters back into the fold, both physically and interest-wise as well.
Enter Speed Skating. The sport came the closest it has ever come to being an Olympic Candidate sport for the 2016 Summer Olympics, narrowly beat out by Rugby Sevens and Golf.
With Speed Skating competitions in mind, follow the link below to Team USA Roller Sports, a website with information about the athletes, the competitions and the state of Skating in the US.

Are you ready for summer?

With Summer fast approaching, it may be time for you to get your skates ready for warmer weather.
Unless of course, you live in warmer, drier parts of the world and your Winter has been a slightly cooler Summer and your skates have been in use all along.
But for those whose skates have been in the closet for all the wet out there, here are a few tips for getting your skates back to performance ready:

  • Spin your wheels. Are they spinning nice and free? Trying adjusting the axel bolts with the hex wrench that came with your LandRollers. They should be just tight enough that any more and the wheel will slow.
  • Take your hex wrench and tighten all the hex bolts on the skate, just to be sure. There are 2 hex bolts connecting the frame to the boot, 2 for the brake arm, and 1 for each wheel.
  • This is not a “have to” but you can take a silicon based lubricant and give each the bearing of each spinning wheel a spritz on the front and back. This will help keep grit from working its way into the interior and making the inside dirty and slow. NEVER use a degreaser like WD40. This will destroy your bearings.
  • Take a good look at your wheels and brake pad. Do they need to be replaced? Pushing a severely worn out wheel can be dangerous. Same thing with a brake pad. Better to have spares on hand and ready to go.
  • Are your safety pads ready to go? If they have damage from last Summer and you just haven’t replaced them, you are asking for trouble. Don’t wait until you fall, do it now.

While there are definitely additional and more detailed things you can do to keep your skates in top condition, these are some solid basic things that will go a long way towards extending the life of your skates.

Go forth and roll.

Get your pads on!

Greetings fellow LandRollers! Hope the New Year finds you happy and rolling on your MOJO’s.
One of the biggest items sold during the holiday season, besides skates, was safety pads. I wanted to take a moment and just advocate getting a good set of pads, either from us or somewhere else and WEAR THEM!
I am writing this blog with a reconstructed knee that I got about 15 years ago while not wearing my knee pads. I have been skating since I was 5, you would think I knew better. However I didn’t. Mainly because I didn’t think I would fall. You never do, until it happens. And then you have to deal with what an impact does to your bones.
On old fashioned quad-skates, if you fell, you fell on your butt. The reason for this is that the bottom of the wheels touch the ground at the base of your toes. So, when you fall forward, the toe stop touches down and you have a solid footing on the toe stop. However, the back wheels touch down in the middle of the heel, so when you tip back, you are on your way to your bottom.
Inline skates and LandRollers have wheels that touch down in the same place, the back of the heel, which helps prevent falling backwards, and the tip of the toes, which gives you more toe stability. However, when you start to fall, your instinct is to fall forward, going to your knees and putting your palms out. Kneecaps and wrist bones are not designed to come in contact with asphalt. Something needs to absorb the shock. This is where knee pads and wrist guards come in.
To sum up, be good to yourself and take the precautions that will keep you healthy, happy, and rolling.

Holidays and Shipping…

Happy Holidays from LandRoller!

The Holidays started for LandRoller just a touch before Thanksgiving. That is when things start to get wild around here. And right now? Holiday craziness reigns. Sales are fast and furious to the point that some sizes and colors had to be opened to backorders. Our factory has managed to speed up our next production run, but not fast enough to get it here for Christmas.

The sizes that are out are as follows:

MOJO Blue MOJO Red
M6/W7 M7/W8
M7/W8 M8/W9
M8/W9

As mentioned, we have opened them to back orders, which are coming in fast and furious. We expect to ship out all of the back-ordered skates in early January.

The last day to safely order skates with Fedex ground shipping and have a good chance of getting them by Christmas is Monday the 17th. All orders placed Friday afternoon thru Monday 2 pm PST will ship on Monday. Keep in mind that Fedex Ground is not guaranteed to deliver in 3-5 days, especially at this time of the year. 2nd Day air is guaranteed to be delivered by the end of the 2nd shipping day after shipping. So the safest day to order to assure delivery by Christmas using 2nd Day Air would be Thursday the 20th, by 1pm PST. While Fedex states that they guaranty 2nd Day Air delivery, better to be safe.

Just to change gears, LandRoller is looking for pics of you and your LandRollers. Skating, posing, interesting backgrounds, whatever you like. We will be publishing the pics on the website, in the blog, possibly a fan page. Please keep the pics clean. We reserve the right to not use any pic that is offensive in nature.

If there are any questions you have about any and all things LandRoller, don’t hesitate to contact us. info@landroller.com or310-376-5077

Getting the right size?

Skates are one of the greatest Christmas gifts you can ever receive.
But thats just my opinion.
With the holidays rapidly approaching, we are getting a lot of calls concerning finding the right size for a pair of gift skates.
There is a reason for this. Skate, running shoe and boot manufacturers have kind of implemented their own sizing guides over the years. This makes it tough to buy a new manufacturer’s skates, kind of like ours.
I have some good news.
The MOJO LandRoller runs true to size for standard US sizes and is only available in whole sizes. European and UK sizing may not match up perfect, so please use a US sizing guide. We never recommend using running shoes or a competitors skates as a sizing guide as the majority tend to use their own in house sizing model.
The best way to be sure is to have your foot sized at a shoe store. As for those who are half sizes, there is a decision to make. It really comes down to personal preference. If you go down a half size, the fit could be tight and restrictive. People with an Ice skating or skiing background tend to prefer this. If you go up a half size, there may be a little extra room. A majority of people seem to prefer this. A thick pair of socks and even a shoe insert can make up the difference.
What do you think would be best?

Additionally, whether you are purchasing for yourself or as a gift we have a generous size exchange policy. When you or your loved one gets their Mojo skates just make sure to try them on inside on carpet for fit. If it’s clear that they are a size too large or too small just email us for an RA Code. We’ll send you a code and directions for sending back the skates. Once we get them and ensure they are in new condition we will send you out your requested size free of charge. Also, though our policy throughout the year is that we accomplish the size exchange within 15 days, we extend that during the holiday season. Any skates purchased from today forward, just need to complete the size exchange by December 31st.

In the spirit of spreading some “LandRoller Cheer” during this season of giving — if you order by December 15th, just put “Blog SWAG” in the notes section and we’ll throw in an additional item (like a carrying strap or extra brake pad while supplies last) at our discretion.

Are your skates ready to roll?

Winter is almost here and that may cut down on skate time in your part of the country, so it pays to be ready. If dry days are hard to find, make sure your skates are ready.

Here are a few tips to ensure your maintenance is up to date:

1) Give your wheels a spritz with some silicon-based lubricant. We highlight “silicon” for a reason. Just to be clear, don’t use WD40 will have a negative affect on your bearings and ability to skate. 2) Take a few minutes to make sure all of the screws and bolts on your skates are hand tight. 3) What kind of condition are your wheels in? Don’t wait till you break out your skates to go for a roll before you notice your wheels are down to the hub. Where are your pads?

Whether you need protective gear or a set of replacement wheels, we invite you to use this “Friends & Family” code “FF25NOV” to get a 25% discount on accessories. Please don’t delay as the code will expire automatically after a certain number of uses. These simple yet important tips on safety and preparation will allow you to take advantage of the relatively warm/dry conditions and get you LandRolling immediately.

Go forth and roll.

Get your skates on!!!

The sun is out in Southern California, (Home of LandRoller Skates) and the beach looks AWESOME!
You thought skating was over just because Summer was over?
Not even close.
I saw a group of distance skaters flying down the bike path in formation this morning.
And a couple were wearing their LandRollers.
An even mix, one pair of MOJO’s and one Terra 9. (Old School!)
I envy the dedication of the early morning skater.
On a regular basis, I get either phone calls or emails from long time runners who cross train heavily on roller skates as a way to save their knees for competition.
Skating is recognized by many as being a better workout than running.

So, get out your MOJO’s and go get your skate on!
